New Night Life in Athens

The night life in Gazi, just a short walk from the centre, has been electrified with the extension of Athens underground Metro to Keramikos Station & the building of a promenade to link Plaka & Monastiraki to the area. The key piece of the area is the refurbished industrial gas works of Technopolis which is now a multi-functional space hosting events from meetings to art exhibitions to the Athens Jazz Festival & Athens Fashion Week.

A relatively small area of pedestrian streets around the Metro station is lined with restaurants, bars & night clubs that become one big street party as the night gets late & patrons sit at outside tables or overflow onto the pavements.

Dinner at one of the restaurants here is a great choice for groups who wish to stay on to experience the late-night party scene in the newest, trendiest area of Athens.

The most meaningful ‘Team Building’ on earth …

The Build-a-Bike Challenge is a team building activity like no other: a highly competitive quest in the city of Athens to recover the components of a bike & a race by the teams to assemble the bike is a unifying endeavour to donate the bikes to a worthy charity.

The overriding message is that smaller parts & contributions combined can make a BIG difference.

Triple Bottom Line reporting becomes a tangible reality with teams as they make a genuine contribution to the community via the team building activity. Delegates take part in the competitive, interactive game that leads them through some of the most exciting areas of Athens.

Once the assembly of the bikes is complete, teams participate in a race before donating them to an orphanage or charity organization.

Athens Update 15th May 2010

Greece is passing a difficult time with demonstrations & strikes resulting from the economic crisis and austerity measures. As a professional Destination Management Company & member of World of DMC's & SITE International, I would like to reassure our clients & any traveller that Greece remains one of the safest countries in Europe.

As a World of DMC's & SITE member, I am proud to carry their logo with honour, we are here to provide professional and top quality services. An important part of this is the safety of our clients. If we thought for a moment that there was any danger, please be assured that we would be the first ones to advise our clients. We are monitoring the situation constantly to ensure our visitors enjoy their time in Athens and the rest of Greece, to the full.

As is the norm, the recent demonstrations in Athens have been 98% peaceful, with only minor scuffles between police & demonstrators. The demonstrations are being conducted by civil servants & are contained in a small section of central Athens. Main tourist areas or any archaeological sites of Athens are not near these areas. All private businesses are unaffected. Services are operating normally and we do not foresee any demonstrations preventing groups and individuals doing any of the planned tours or trips in Athens.

The Greek Islands and mainland Greece are untouched by these troubles and remain one of the top travel destinations in summer.

Sincerely yours,

Photis Photopoulos
Managing Director

Athens Update 20th May 2010

Hi Photis

My Incentive groups of May 2010 is now safely back in South Africa and I have had plenty of feedback from the delegates.

They all admit to being a little hesitant prior to leaving for Athens. However all of them were pleasantly surprised by how normal things were. At no stage did they feel worried or concerned for their safety and we saw no signs of trouble anywhere. They all commented about how pleasant it was to be able to walk around at night without feeling scared. Many of them used the Metro which they found to be safe, clean and very efficient. We all had an amazing time and the only wish was that we could have been there for a few more days.

We look forward to bringing more groups to Greece in the near future.

With thanks and regards

Mike Doveton
